Kenute Hare

Ministry of Transport & Mining
Director, Road Safety Unit
Kenute Hare has been working in the Road Safety Unit in the Ministry of Transport and Mining for the past twenty years where he held the positions of Accident/Statistician for the period 1999-2008 and is presently the Director, Road Safety since 2008. Mr. Hare views road safety as challenging but rewarding career as one gets the opportunity to really try to save the lives of persons who use the roadways. He is fully committed to the task and has been very involved in Jamaica’s road safety operations. His profound dream is to see Jamaica’s road safety operations and systems comparable to that of Sweden, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
He could be considered a road safety zealot but saddened when anyone dies as a result of traffic crashes, as the Scio Economic fabric of Jamaica is affected negatively. He believes that if we all adopt the Safe Systems Approach and implement it in our road safety operations, the carnage on the global road network would definitely fall under one million and the projected goal of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011-2020) can be achieved. Mr. Hare has received road safety training from the International Road Federation, Aston University, University of the North Florida, Lund Technology University and Delft Technology University in the following areas:
Road Safety Audit and Inspection;
Road Safety Operations and Management; and
Traffic Crash Investigation and Reconstruction
He is very proficient in analyzing the event data recorders (black boxes) of motor vehicles involved in traffic collisions. Recently, he acquired technical expertise to analyse the infotainment systems of motor vehicles involved in traffic collisions and is looking forward to leveraging same for road safety.
His guiding philosophy is never to give up, no matter what the circumstances are, thus everyone must be committed to the road safety task as road safety saves lives and will in turn reap tremendous rewards to come.
