Lev Pinelis, is Director of Innovation for Transurban North America, where he oversees the strategy and implementation of emerging technology programs, including new Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Smart Mobility solutions, on Transurban’s North American toll road facilities. Mr. Pinelis joined Transurban in 2010 to work on the pioneering I-495 Express Lanes project in the Washington, D.C. region, for which he led engineering and project management for the development and delivery of the dynamically priced tolling system. Mr. Pinelis brings over 15 years of experience in ITS and electronic toll collection. He began his career as a transportation systems engineer and consultant with IBI group, where he focused on tolling systems design, testing, operations, and analysis. He also developed USDOT-sponsored Connected Vehicle prototype projects while with Battelle. Mr. Pinelis holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Science in transportation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia and a founding member and chairperson of the IBTTA Connected and Automated Vehicle working group.
